As an extension of our traditional NDE services, we have an advanced NDE department to offer even more technical support and added value to our inspections. We are constantly researching new technology and developing this department to provide solutions for clients with specific challenges and requirements. Our ASNT NDT Level III personnel and Integrity Engineers oversee this department ensuring all newly added advanced inspection services are fully understood and key personnel are trained to competently operate equipment and evaluate captured data.

Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing (PAUT)

PAUT has become one of our mainstream advanced services that continues to grow as clients become more aware of its benefits over conventional UT. With PAUT, the inspector has the ability to steer, focus and scan beams with a single transducer through the use of multi-element probes individually excited in specific sequences.
Notable advantages of this technique are:

  • Flaw evaluation and sizing are greatly improved in accuracy
  • Excellent flaw visualization through the linear and sectorial scans
  • Faster data capture and analysis
  • Permanently store data for data manipulation and additional analysis

Time of Flight Diffraction (TOFD)

TOFD provides fast inspection of axial and circumferential welds with unsurpassed detection and sizing capabilities. As it is based on the concept of diffraction, it is unaffected by the orientation of flaws or weld bevel angles making it a highly sensitive technique.

Guided Wave Ultrasonic Testing (GWUT)

GWUT, also know as Long Range Ultrasonic Testing, is now offered by TISL with the latest equipment, excellent technical support and well-trained inspection engineers. We recognize the importance of thorough training and understanding of new techniques and have carefully rolled out this new service with this in mind.
GWUT is an excellent screening tool for rapid detection of internal and external wall loss on pipe from 4” to over 48” in diameter. It can be deployed quickly and effectively for periodic inspections or be permanently installed for constant monitoring.
Its applications may be ideal for:

  • Process plant piping
  • Buried pipelines
  • Cross-country piping
  • Insulated and coated pipe
  • Offshore platform risers and caissons

Ultrasonic Tomography

Our tomograph unit uses DFA (digitally focused arrays) that can automatically focus the aperture of the acoustic beams to give excellent imaging of internal structures of metals and plastics.
Its benefits include:

  • High resolution
  • Good signal-to-noise ratio
  • Detectability of flaws throughout the whole depth and width of test object

Pulsed Eddy Current Testing (PEC)

Our PEC service has provided a solution for clients whom require assessment of the remaining wall in carbon steel without access to the surface of the material (liftoff). This volumetric technique is an excellent scanning tool for measuring wall thickness in the following applications:

  • Corrosion Under Insulation (CUI)
  • Corrosion blisters and scabs
  • Flow-accelerated corrosion
  • Corrosion under fireproofing (CUF)
  • Corrosion under coatings
  • Splash zone and under water

Our equipment produces compelling C-Scan imagery with innovative reporting tools to create an excellent overview of the test object’s integrity.

Eddy Current Array Testing (ECA)

ECA is an advanced eddy current testing technique which uses multiplexing in which multiple coils in a single probe are activated and deactivated in a specific sequence. It offers a wealth of benefits to the quality of data collected and can significantly improve inspection times for surface testing. Our rugged mobile ECA equipment is second to none with a variety of probes for different applications:

  • Advanced detection and sizing of cracks in carbon steel and stainless-steel welds
  • Detection of Stress Corrosion Cracking (SCC) in base metal
  • One-pass examination of piping, nozzles, turbine blades and other smooth surfaces
  • Excellent defect positioning and sizing in metals
  • Encoded data for detailed data collection
  • Inspection of hard to reach areas or complex geometry through use of flexible probes

Eddy Current Tubing Inspection & Remote Field Testing (RFT)

TISL once again offers heat exchanger tubing inspection using both eddy current and remote field probes but now with the latest technology and equipment.

Computed Radiographic Testing (CRT)/ Digital Radiographic Testing (DRT)

The days of harsh chemicals, bulky dark rooms and long processing times are a thing of the past with both CRT and DRT. Since its launch, our CRT system has created massive improvements to our productivity and detection capabilities and DRT affords even more benefits. We now offer the most advanced DRT system in Trinidad that delivers detailed results, instantly, using digital detectors and high-resolution tablets.
